Flamenco Dance with Mariana Gatto and Miguelito Perez

Join us for an amazing experience, an afternoon of Flamenco Dance with Marianna Gatto and Miguelito Perez, on Tuesday afternoon, April 23rd, 4 pm at the Lyric Theatre. It is free and open to the public.

This performance is made possible by sponsorship of Virginia Tech Modern and Classical Languages and Literatures, the School of Performing Arts, the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, the Center for Humanities, the Office of Inclusion and Diversities, the Moss Arts Center, Mozaiko, the Residential College at West Ambler Johnson, the Student Budget Board, and Ole' at Virginia Tech.

Olé at VT and the Department of Modern and Classical Languages are proud to host Mariana Gatto and Miguelito Pérez, a flamenco dancer-guitarist duo based in Washington DC. Mariana and Miguelito will showcase their skills, passion, and artistry in several styles of flamenco and will also combine techniques of ballet and modern dance within flamenco compasses.

Mariana Gatto traces her origins to the Gypsy communities of Bulgaria. She is a disciplined and determined dancer who began performing Flamenco in adult venues at age 6. She rapidly became passionate about ballet, flamenco and other forms of dance and performing arts. She has won several awards, including the Grand Prix Award at the Vienna International Ballet Experience, and international scholarships. She has recently performed alongside the renowned flamenco dancer and choreographer Rafael Amargo in his Dionisio: la vid y mil noches, and with the Gypsy Kings in their US tours.

Miguelito Pérez comes from a family of musicians and visual artists, and majored in classical guitar performance at California State University, Fullerton. Since his arrival in the DC flamenco scene in 1991, Miguelito has played with several companies in the area, including Danza del Río, Spanish Dance Society, Ana Martínez Flamenco Dance Company, Natalia Monteleón’s Arte Flamenco, Ziva’s Spanish Dance Ensemble and Furia Flamenca.
