EVENT INFORMATION
Picture a Scientist
2020 | 103 mins | Movie, Special Event
In celebration of Women's Month, join us for this engaging event dedicated to a better understanding of the status of women in STEM professions.

Picture a Scientist chronicles the groundswell of researchers who are writing a new chapter for women scientists. Biologist Nancy Hopkins, chemist Raychelle Burks, and geologist Jane Willenbring lead viewers on a journey deep into their own experiences in the sciences, ranging from brutal harassment to years of subtle slights. Along the way, from cramped laboratories to spectacular field stations, we encounter scientific luminaries - including social scientists, neuroscientists, and psychologists - who provide new perspectives on how to make science itself more diverse, equitable, and open to all.

Presented by AdvanceVT, Center for Communicating Science, Women's Center, Center for Educational Networks and Impacts, College of Science, College of Natural Resources and Environment, Psychology Department, Geosciences Department, Center for Enhancement of Engineering Diversity (CEED), and Widening Inclusivity in the (Geo)Sciences (WInGS).
